This is Michael Neuendorff, The Growth Coach and I'm here with today's Guerilla Marketing Weapon tip. We're at #23 and that's 800 number.
An 800 number may not be as important for small business as they once were because we have unlimited calling with our cell phones and possibly even on our landlines, which means that's not that important to save the money on the phone call. However you might still want to have an 800 number because you could have a vanity number. For example, I might be able to get 800-the-growth-coach and that might make it easier for people to remember my phone number and if I serve a large metropolitan area with multiple area codes, it might also make sense. Keep in mind though that many people are calling business lines from their cell phones. My Blackberry for example has no letters associated with the numbers on the keypad so if I was going to dial 800-the-growth-coach, I wouldn't know what numbers to dial to get those letters. So keep that in mind when you're thinking about a vanity number for an 800 number. If you're going to use a regular old phone number, then be careful about picking one that's easy to remember. My number is 650-373-2022. 373-2022 has only 4 numbers in it and the 2 is repeated 3 times and the 3 is repeated 2 times so it's pretty easy to remember that number. I don't generally share my cell phone number, which makes it easy for people to remember just one number to reach me. Through technology, I actually have my office line being forwarded to my cell phone so I don't really need to share my cell phone number with anybody, even after hours if you call my number 373-2022, it still rings my cell phone. I don't essentially ever close, except when I turn off my cell phone.
I like to make it easy for people to reach me, easy for people to remember my number and I suggest you do the same. Thank you very much .
