I used to think that to become a psychology professor you get a graduate degree and apply for a job. And if you're a good teacher then you'll get the job. That's not the case and it's really oversimplified. There's really discrete things that you need to establish before you can successfully apply to a place that you would actually want to teach. If you're somebody who is driven you don't want just any position. You want to be able to teach at a place you would really enjoy.
