Are You Aiming High Enough?

One of my all-time favourite coaching questions is What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?

What I like about this question is that it completely reframes your thinking.

Our goals are often bounded by self-limiting beliefs and by asking what you would do if you couldn’t fail you immediately lift those limits. It gets you thinking and dreaming about possibilities without limits and boundaries.

Your brains are incredibly powerful if you think limits you will find limits. Whereas if you think about the possibilities you can start to see solutions and opportunities.

This approach you get your brains working with you rather than against you.

So as you start to think about your goals for 2019, do it without limits, do it without boundaries and be open to possibilities.

I appreciate that might mean you set yourself scary goals, but as Richard Branson says “If your goals don’t scare you they aren’t big enough”.

Today I asked myself this question and it got me thinking about what it is that I really want, rather than what I would be prepared to settle for.

When we settle we are giving up on our dreams, giving up on achieving our full potential. It’s that type of thinking that has held me back, stopped me from doing some simple things that might have actually helped me achieve the goals I truly desire.

Setting bold goals sometimes sounds like aggressives, aiming very high, but sometimes it’s actually about setting the goals we would really like to achieve but lack the belief.

If you never start you will never succeed, so we need to have that boldness to go after what we want.

This year do yourself a favour and ask yourself what goals would you set if you knew you couldn’t fail.
